Shipping container BMSB fumigation UK
The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug
The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) is exotic to Australia and New Zealand.
As a seasonal hitchhiker pest, BMSB may arrive in Australia on cargo and on/in containers.
It can enter vehicles, homes, and factories in large numbers in autumn months, looking for places to shelter over winter.
It is commonly found on goods arriving in Australia between September and April.
known as the BMSB risk season, imported cargo presents a significant biosecurity risk as a potential pathway to transport BMSB from foreign countries into Australia & New Zealand.
We are approved to use Sulfuryl Fluoride for container & under sheet treatments of BMSB fumigation UK.
Sulfuryl Fluoride is a pressurised gas fumigant.
It is approved by Australia and New Zealand for the treatment of BMSB.
We treat goods in containers or under sheets at locations through out the UK. This can be turned around in 12hrs – 24 hrs.
Fumigation of containers can be undertaken for other pests also using Sulfuryl Fluoride (SF) or Phosphine.
SF is also approved to treat wood boring insects, stored product insects and moths. Treatments using this fumigant can be turned around in 12hrs.
We also use metallic phosphine compounds for food commodities, raw materials, finished goods, packaging materials and other items such as basket ware and Tobacco.
Which have, stored product Insect (SPI), Moth and other pest species infesting the commodity.
Treatment time with phosphine can range between 5-14 days dependent on species / product and temperature.
Treatment can be undertaken at client’s premises, Ports, Rail freight Terminals and storage sites throughout the UK.
It is common practice for exporting countries to have goods fumigated before export and shipped under gas.
This presents a risk to any person opening and unloading without the container first be de-gassed.
Fumigill Shipping container BMSB fumigation UK can extract the toxic gases via forced ventilation and remove the remaining hazardous residues for safe disposal.
Thorough gas testing is undertaken and only when the levels are below the Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) will a gas free clearance certificate be issued.
Gas testing & Ventilation
A survey undertaken in Belgium & the Netherlands found that 11% of 50,000 containers tested found toxic vapours and gas levels above safe levels.
A high percentage of these had not even been fumigated!
The levels of toxic substance were found to be emitted from every day items such as shoes, electronics and paint which were still curing from the manufacturing process.
Some of these substances include Formaldehyde, Toluene, 1,2 Dichloroethane, Carbon Monoxide and Ammonia.
This presents a risk to the health of any unsuspecting persons opening and discharging the containers, example of which are warehouse operatives, Fork lift truck drivers, Port Health / custom Inspectors.
We can provide a testing and ventilation service for a range of substances giving safety and reassurance to all persons who maybe at risk.
